Budapest airport closed a record half-year, showing an incredible growth in air cargo transportation. The HGL Group is deeply involved in the remarkable rise of the air cargo sector. Moreover, the figures for the second half of the year are also encouraging.
The first six months of 2024 produced outstanding results at Budapests’ Liszt Ferenc International Airport, not only in passenger traffic but also for cargo transportation. A total of 133,747 tons of goods was handled during the first half of the year, 46.2% more than for the same period in 2023, setting a new record in the airport’s history. The amount of goods handled reached 25,001 tons in June, 57.5% more than in June of the previous year, surpassing the previous peak month of March.
This exceptional performance is driven by Hungary’s strategic location, the excellent infrastructure of the airport, and the effective work of the cargo community. Budapest Airport is not only one of the most important air transport hubs in the Central European region but increasingly functions as a global distribution center.
