Logistics record year for Air Cargo at Budapest Airport

Last year, more than 200,000 tonnes of goods were handled at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport.

This logistics record is a clear sign that BUD Cargo City’s key role in the region’s logistics network is growing.

The remarkable result was reported by Budapest Airport in a January statement.

The completion of the first phase of the BUD Cargo City expansion certainly played a role in the logistical success of 2023. Thanks to an investment of around €30 million, the Cargo City dedicated aircraft apron has doubled in size, and can now handle up to four F-category aircraft at the same time. The warehouse and office space of the cargo handling complex has also been increased by 6,500 square metres. These investments will help to expand regional and global trade links and contribute to economic growth.

The HGL Group is a leading player in the Budapest cargo community, and as such also made a significant contribution to the record freight volumes in 2023. The company’s professionals have decades of experience moving tons of goods from around the world to and from Budapest.

Budapest Airport increasingly plays a central role in international air freight transport, which is an important factor in the development of the Hungarian and Central European logistics sector.

Hungarian businesses could be the real winners of the logistics record

The development over recent years has not only strengthened the strategic position of Liszt Ferenc International Airport in the region. The 48.5% increase in air freight traffic also offers major benefits for Hungarian companies.

This growth allows businesses to access faster and more efficient logistics solutions. This is particularly true for companies active in e-commerce and international trade.

With the exceptional infrastructure, professional workforce and dedicated cargo flights provided by BUD Cargo City, Hungarian companies can take better advantage of direct flights to China and the growth of e-commerce goods. This will help Hungarian companies to become more competitive in the global market.

The current successes are only the beginning of the journey. Further growth is sure to follow, and HGL Group will continue to be a reliable partner both for Budapest Airport and for businesses targeting the global market.
